As a Tonmeister, Marcel is specialized in music recording, theatre sound design and mixing.

He graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Music in The Netherlands in Music Education (MEd) and Art of Sound (BMus). During his Tonmeister and Education studies he took advanced courses in trumpet, piano, singing, music theory, arranging, conducting, acoustics, psychology, electronics and producing.

Possessing thorough musical and technical knowledge, Marcel has mixed more than 5,000 shows over the last 20 years, enjoyed by an audience of over 8 million, working closely with internationally renowned designers (e.g., Steve Canyon KennedyJohn ShiversPaul GroothuisJeroen ten BrinkePaul Arditti and Gareth Owen), composers (e.g., Phil CollinsPaul BogaevStephen BrookerJim AbbottJeroen Sleyfer), soloists (e.g., Simone KleinsmaPia DouwesWillem NijholtChantal JanzenBill van DijkMarco Bakker) and many musicians.

Productions include the European premières of the world-famous Disney musicals Aida and Tarzan as well Disney / Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins.

He was Head of Sound for Miss SaigonElisabethAidaMusicals in ConcertLion King, Mary PoppinsBeauty and The BeastTarzan and Ciske de Rat.

Marcel worked as sound operator for The Phantom of the OperaLes MisèrablesWicked, Sister Act and Billy Elliot. Mainly in The Netherlands as well as in Belgium.

He joined Disney’s creative sound team for Aida in Essen, Germany.

Marcel joined sound designer Paul Groothuis as his associate sound designer for Disney/CML’s Mary Poppins for shows in Vienna | The Ronacher (2014), Stuttgart | Stage Apollo Theatre (2016), the UK tour | Alhambra Theatre Bradford | WMC Cardiff (2016), Zurich | Theater 11 (2017) and Dubai | Opera (2017). Upcoming: Theater an der Elbe | Hamburg (2018).

In his work, Marcel forms an important bridge between the artistic vision of the show designers, the language of musicians and soloists, the technical team and the audience.

Alongside musical theatre, Marcel works as Sound Design Consultant for The Space Factory in Lyon, France. Also as recording and balance engineer on a variety of educational and commercial productions. Most recent the albums “Desire the Reckless’ by Lorrainville and ‘De Grasbroek Sessies’ by Bløf.

Marcel is lecturer at The Creative College Utrecht, visiting lecturer at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht for the School of Music and Technology and examinor at the MediaCollege Amsterdam
